Upendo Artist Association Inc
Upendo Artist Association Inc is a non-for-profit, non-government organization (NGO) operating several assistance programs in the small communities surrounding the toen of Moshi in Tanzania. We focus on a specific community in order to strengthen existing networks as a means to increase capacity, sustainability & empowering the community.
Founded by an Australian tourist in 2009, Upendo began when Luke Bennett started to provide a few basic items such as mattresses, mosquito nets, medicine & food. Since these humble beginnings, Upendo has diversified operations, growing with the changing needs of the community & touching the lives of hundreds of people.
Upendo now looks at the long term picture & endeavours to empower children - specially at the Upendo Children's Orphanage - the disabled community, disadvantaged women & people affected by poverty & illness through education, vocational training & general improvements in lifestyle & welfare.
