Life In A Jar

I started to make terrariums because I loved how something that seemed to be static, sometimes representing a moment in time, could actually be ever changing. My terrariums are one-off pieces all of which feature a piece of wood or a particular rock or a trinket that’s crossed my path.

Lately I have been making moss sculptures out of rock and wood. I also make vertical terrariums where moss grows up the side of the vessel as opposed to the bottom. These are unique and I find them to be very beautiful.

I also work with water making moss ball terrariums and paludariums, where water and land combine. These are gentle and I try to recreate that feeling of the moment before land and water merge.

This is an amazing time to be creating. YouTube, Facebook, TikTok gives the most talented “scaping” artists a real time platform to show their art and the viewers the opportunity to discuss its creation with them. I find this humbling, inspiring and a definite motivation to keep pushing beyond what I think I’m capable of.
