PikaPika Pottery/Chuditch Glass Studio
PikaPika Pottery:- Pika Pika means glittery/shiny/sparkly in Japanese and I love to make beautiful, functional, handmade pottery in Perth WA; things that will brighten your ordinary day. I don't believe in keeping treasured possessions only "for good" but rather using objects everyday that give you joy. I am inspired by nature, the patterns that surround us and the colours which brighten our days. I also love to preserve the intricate patterns of doilies, beautifully intricate pieces of textile art which our grandmothers spent so much time and energy on.
Chuditch Glass Studio:- After working for decades as a biologist, in 2012 I found a way to combine my love of nature with art after signing up for a stained glass course. Cutting and grinding glass, lacing the pieces together with copper foil or lead came was pure magic. After creating window and door panels for my home, I moved onto suncatchers, jewellery and macrame, incorporating glass, recycled and natural materials.
My business name is derived from a marsupial native to Western Australia, the Chuditch (Nyoongar name) or Western Quoll. Chuditch feed on mammals, birds, small lizards, and bird or reptiles eggs. However, their main food source are crickets, spiders and scorpions. Previously abundant throughout Australia, they are now endangered.
I donate $1 from every sale to a local wildlife charity to support their conservation work.
