Meet the Maker: Lush Baubles

“What happens in the craft room stays in the craft room often spills out into the rest of the house!” -Unknown-

Kylie from Lush Baubles knows this feeling only too well (as do most of us with the creative spark)! “Lush Baubles is very much a home-based business, albeit I've taken over the entire home theatre room as my creative space and to store all my gemstones, wire and bits & bobs that go into my unique handmade jewellery pieces.”

If you have visited a Perth Makers Market event before you will no doubt have come across a store that is filled with wonderfully unique accessories that have been dipped in beauty and sprinkled with quirk.

Kylie and Matt have been a stallholder at Perth Makers Market since DAY ONE and we treasure the relationship that now exists between us and them; we provide a space where they can showcase their talent and beautiful creations.

Kylie started Lush Baubles whilst between jobs some 20 years ago – how time flies! She is entirely self-taught and has spent the last two decades honing and improving her skills whilst also experimenting with new styles. What started as a side hustle when Kylie was a stay-at-home Mum, has now turned into a thriving business that she runs full time.

We asked Kylie where she gets her inspiration from and she said, “Inspiration is taken from many areas - whether from my early days in the goth scene, or from memories of visiting French castles and seeing the stunning artwork, and antique clothing and jewellery.”

Kylie then uses this inspiration and goes on to create unique jewellery utilizing a variety of materials, including semi-precious & precious ethical gemstones & recycled precious metals, and vintage & antique finds. All of the items are carefully and lovingly hand-made with often of a period of days to get things looking or sitting "just right".

As with many small business owners Covid-19 was a huge and unprecedented challenge. The uncertainty around lockdowns, event cancellations, stock issues, delivery times and loss of income was a very real threat. Luckily for us Lush Baubles has emerged on the other side and now it is more important than ever for the community to rally behind these local businesses and ensure they are with us for many years to come.

What will the future bring? When we asked Kylie what her future goals are she responded saying… “To continue finding new inspirations, trying new styles, and bring gorgeous, unique, and individualised pieces of jewellery to the people of Perth and greater WA. I would love to expand online, but that's a work in progress”.

Lastly we asked Kylie what she loves about Perth Makers Market. “I love meeting new people - whether buyers or other creative stallholders, and being able to discuss what goes into each jewellery piece. PMM Markets are always well organised and well run. The PMM staff are always friendly and welcoming, and are a joy to work with come rain or shine.”

We absolutely LOVE having Kylie & Matt of Lush Baubles at our markets. They are a joy to work with and they add so much to our maker community.

The Lush Baubles brand is well know, both online and within the Perth market scene, and was selected as the accessory provider at the 2016 Pierrot's Model Search fashion parade.
