With a love for fresh, in-season fruits, she initially thought of creating fruit cups or fruit salads, but a trip to a market on the east coast of Australia last year sparked the idea that would become ChocPool. She was inspired by the simple yet delicious concept of strawberry cups coated in chocolate. Melissa decided to bring this idea back to Perth, and ChocPool was born.
“I wanted to create something I could do while still dancing professionally and studying,” Melissa explains. “The strawberry cups with chocolate were a hit, and I knew this could be my version of a fruit cup! It’s a fun, tasty concept that I knew people here in Western Australia would love.”

One of the many things that makes ChocPool stand out is the attention to quality and freshness. Melissa sources local strawberries to ensure that each cup is bursting with flavour. The chocolate she uses is premium Italian, adding a rich, decadent layer to the already sweet strawberries.

Melissa also maintains a workspace at home for storing supplies and equipment, but she loves the energy of working directly at the event, interacting with customers and crafting each cup to order.
“I think that’s one of the things people enjoy most about ChocPool—everything is made fresh on the day, and they get to see the process,” she shares.
For Melissa, one of the greatest rewards in running ChocPool has been the immediate positive feedback from customers. “I’ve had people return for seconds at the same event,” she says. “That’s always such a great feeling because it shows that your product is truly enjoyed.”
While ChocPool is a side project that Melissa juggles with her dancing and studies, it’s a venture she’s deeply passionate about. “I love having something to work towards outside of my profession,” she explains. “It helps with the stress of my main job and gives me purpose in a different way.”

Like many small business owners, Melissa faces challenges—particularly when it comes to finding reliable staff. However, her passion for ChocPool drives her to keep growing and expanding. Looking ahead, Melissa hopes to open a second stall and eventually operate from a van, allowing her to bring ChocPool to even more events and locations around Perth.
Melissa is also mindful of her environmental impact. ChocPool partners with a local Perth company, Edible Cutlery, to provide eco-friendly utensils that complement the dessert perfectly. The fact that her strawberry cups are made to order ensures there’s little to no waste at the end of each event. Any leftover strawberries that haven’t been used are shared with her neighbours—a small but meaningful way to give back to the community.
