Jacinta started working with clay during the start of Covid lockdowns as a way to get through the months of isolation and to continue being creative at home.
 
Before clay she was and still is an avid photographer. What inspires her most is this land and this part of the world that she has a deep connection to through her Indigenous culture. The trees and plants that grow here continue to inspire her to incorporate it into her art. She does most of her art at home. Bush walks always help with inspiration. Her friends and family are huge supporters of her work and are always encouraging her to do more.

The clay process is long! She first cuts the clay she needs from its block. Then she wedges, flattens, and rests the clay. She then moulds the clay into its shape. Once it’s a bit drier, after 24 hours, she trims, paints, and carves. The piece then sits on her shelf for a week to become bone dry and ready for its first firing. Once the first firing is done, she usually adds a few coats of clear gloss, then fires it for the final time. Working with clay is definitely not about instant results! It is a slow and rewarding process that demands patience and care.

Jacinta Taylor Pottery was a side project for Jacinta since its conception. In 2022 Jacinta made the leap to really immerse herself in art. She resigned from a corporate job to become a full-time student in Secondary Education majoring in Visual Arts. She couldn't have done this without her supportive partner Nate, who believes in her 100%. It's really scary to start over again in her mid-thirties, but she is feeling confident and positive about this change. Her ultimate goal would be to teach art a few days a week and then spend the rest of her time creating it

The biggest challenge for Jacinta to date is trying to get herself out there. She is quite shy and introverted but realises that without doing Markets and promoting herself, she doesn’t sell as much of her beautiful and unique art.
 
Her goal for the future is to find a space and start teaching small groups how to make their own lovely ceramic pieces. She would also love to start stocking her pieces in shops and galleries.

When asked what she loved about Perth Makers Market, Jacinta said that she loves seeing what other creatives are up to and making! She loves connecting with other stall holders in person or via Instagram.
